Frederick is a nationally recognized vocalist, percussionist, and songwriter. Frederick has been singing and performing for over 37 years. Born in Cleveland, Ohio. Frederick began singing and playing musical instruments at the age of ten. While exploring music with various local bands, Frederick was involved with the local Golden Gloves Tournament and even trained with the Navy Olympic boxing team while in the service in 1976. After his military duty, Frederick was hired as part of the writing staff at Time Traxx Recording Studio in Cleveland. He wrote material as well as recorded demos for production. It was at Time Traxx Records that Frederick cut a demo of “Gentle (Calling Your Name)” in 1984. Local DJ, Jeffrey Charles, played the demo on his #1 rated Quiet Storm program, For Lovers Only, on WZAK. The phones rang off the hook and music lovers from all over the region purchased the single.
In 1985, Frederick won the award for “Most Promising New Artist” from the Ohio Valley Urban Music Association. The following year, the Midwest Music Award Association nominated him for “Best New Artist”. Also in 1986, Frederick's single reached #48 on the Billboard Top 100 Black Singles. The song was then featured in the January, 1999 issue of Vibe magazine. The Vibe article highlighted the best-loved songs of all time and gave Frederick national recognition. The article’s subhead was ‘Top Five One-Hit Wonders’ and in this category, “Gentle” was listed as #2.
Frederick has opened and performed with such world-renown acts as George Clinton and the Funkadelics, Gladys Knight, The Temptations, Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes featuring Teddy Pendergrass, and Ashford and Simpson, just to name a few. Frederick also has a stage presence that brings excitement to any function. He is a veteran of stage and comfortable in the spotlight, singing orginals songs, as well as his favorite tunes from artist like George Benson, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Frank Sinatra, and Johnny Mathis, to Louis Armstrong.
2015 is looking pretty good for Frederick. February studio sessions are in progress. Frederick has been recording songs written by...song writer, producer and pianist, Allan Licht along with Grammy Winning producer and engineer Pete Tokar of "Reel Thing Studio".
Allan has written songs for many local and national artist, with his biggest to be coming soon. Allan has written a duet that will feature Frederick and Gloria Loring. Gloria known for playing “Liz Chandler” on Days Of Our Lives". Gloria is also the mother of the Internationally known recording star...Robin Thicke. Gloria also recorded, the # one hit "Friends and Lovers", in 1985 along with Carl Anderson.
After 30 plus years of obscurity, Frederick recorded his debut single “I Can’t Help But Love You” in May of 2015. However, the track was not officially released until September of 2017. This new track did not take long for it to take off once it hit the airwaves. “I Can’t Help But Love You” became a fan favorite as it hit #7 on WNWV-FM 107.3. May 6, 2017 “I Can’t Help But Love You” debut on Jazz FM with Jeff Young show and listened to over 2,600 times with BBC Local Radio’s John Leech and over 7,000 times on Peter Young’s Jazz FM (National
“I Can’t Help But Love You” made the cover on The Coolbox with Kevin O’Brien and was placed on Solar Radio’s Sweet Rhythms Chart with Gary Spence. It was reviewed on Soul and Jazz and Funk by Bill Buckley and the Paul Miller Soul Show on BBC Radio, and played during Frederick’s live interview with John Leech at The Leechy BBC Essex Sunday Soul Show, to name a few.
As we move through 2017, Frederick has resurrected himself. By recreating a classic fan favorite, the modern version of “Games” is bound to mimic his 1984, chart climbing and award winning song, “Gentle (Calling Your Name).”
Compared to the original version, “Games (Remix)” remains a sensual song, emitting mystery and sass with soulful ballads. Frederick applies his 30 plus years of vocal experience and improves the already perfected 1980s single. Unlike the original version, “Games (Remix)” features sexy, reggae-like melodies, creating hip moving and head bobbing rhythms that’s perfect for late night dancing or relaxation. “Games (Remix)” sure to get the crowd swaying, bobbing and finger snapping.
