Frederick Releases His New Tune, “My Gift To You”
By collaborating with Allan Licht and Pete Tokar, Frederick has crafted the perfect addition to Smooth Jazz and Soul with his new single, “My Gift To You.”
In his slow, yet catchy ballad, he expresses the soulful sounds of reoccurring love and true adoration. In its multipart guitar breakdown by Brian Davidson, and harmonizing background vocals by Ezre and himself, “My Gift To You” gives listeners an embodiment of the world’s favorite topic—love.
With words written by R.K. Holler Music and Allan Licht, “My Gift To You” represents the collective feelings of all couples, and is the perfect add-on to Frederick’s chart-hitting library. From the 1984 and 2017 version of “Games,” to his single “Let’s Take The Time” with Gloria Loring, to “I Can’t Help But Love You” and “Shoulder To Cry On,” “My Gift To You” continues the central theme of tenderness.
“All of these songs are about love,” Frederick says. “I look at myself as the messenger for men who feel this way about their woman, but don’t know how to say it. Women crave these words, and hearing it from me can indirectly remind them of how loved they are, or supply the affirmation they need.”
“My Gift To You” is now assessable on all music and streaming outlets. Do yourself a favor and download Frederick’s pre-declared hit single that simplifies the complex idea of love into a catchy, heart-tugging melody.
As one of Cleveland’s hidden gems, Frederick Davis, better known as Frederick, encompasses the sounds of R&B, Soul and Jazz Contemporary with a star-studded track list on his 2017 EP “The Rebirth.” By recreating a classic fan favorite, the modern version of “Games” is bound to mimic his 1984, chart climbing and award winning song, “Gentle (Calling Your Name).”
Compared to the original version, “Games (Remix)” remains a sensual song, emitting mystery and sass with soulful ballads. Frederick applies his 30 plus years of vocal experience and improves the already perfected 1980s single. Unlike the original version, “Games (Remix)” features sexy, reggae-like melodies, creating hip moving and head bobbing rhythms that’s perfect for late night dancing or relaxation.
As no stranger to the spotlight, Frederick’s 1985 debut single, “Gentle” received the award for “Most Promising New Artist” from the Ohio Valley Urban Music Association in 1985 and was nominated for “Best New Artist” in the Midwest Music Award Association. “Gentle” reached #48 on the Billboard Top 100 Black Singles in 1986. Vibe Magazine also highlighted the song in their 1999 issue, which gained national recognition as #2 in the ‘Top Five One-Hit Wonders’ sub category.
After 30 plus years of obscurity, Frederick recorded his debut single “I Can’t Help But Love You” in May of 2015. However, the track was not officially released until September of 2017. This new track did not take long for it to take off once it hit the airwaves. “I Can’t Help But Love You” became a fan favorite as it hit #7 on WNWV-FM 107.3. On May 6, 2017, “I Can’t Help But Love You” debuted on Jazz FM with the Jeff Young show and was listened to over 2,600 times with BBC Local Radio’s John Leech and over 7,000 times on Peter Young’s Jazz FM (National).
“I Can’t Help But Love You” made the cover on The Coolbox with Kevin O’Brien and was placed on Solar Radio’s Sweet Rhythms Chart with Gary Spence. It was reviewed on Soul and Jazz and Funk by Bill Buckley and the Paul Miller Soul Show on BBC Radio, and played during Frederick’s live interview with John Leech at The Leechy BBC Essex Sunday Soul Show, to name a few.
Sure to gain the same exposure and appreciation as “Gentle (Calling Your Name)” and “I Can’t Help But Love You,” it’s just a matter of time before “Games (Remix)” does the same. The smooth, harmonic sounds will capture your mind and mesmerize you like no other. Frederick is back and “Games (Remix)” is proof.
